Summary
Appellant challenged his conviction under Section 3(1) (x) of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989. HELD-Section 3(1) (x) is attracted only where the insult or intimidation is intentionally directed against the victim on the ground of his caste and with the object of humiliating him in public view. Mere abusive language or a personal or monetary dispute does not ipso facto attract the rigours of the SC/ST Act. The appeal was, accordingly, allowed.
